TERMS OF SERVICE · INTERNATIONAL EDITION
Terms of Service
The short version. This summary is for convenience; the full Terms below are what apply.
Nestbill helps you and the people you live with record shared bills and see who owes whom. It never holds or moves money.
What you enter stays yours. People in a shared Nest can see that Nest's bills, photos and payment details.
Receipt scanning sends the photo you choose to an AI service and can make mistakes, so check the result before saving.
Nestbill is in public beta and is provided "as is". Export your ledgers if you need your own copy.
1. Agreement
Nestbill (also called 巢记) is a bill-splitting service for roommates and households, offered on the web and in the Nestbill app. It is operated by the operator of this Nestbill service ("we", "us"). These Terms of Service ("Terms") are a binding agreement between you and us. By creating an account, accepting these Terms in the app, or using Nestbill, you agree to these Terms and acknowledge our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, do not use Nestbill.
2. Who can use Nestbill
You must be at least 13 years old. If you are under the age of majority where you live, you may use Nestbill only with the permission of a parent or legal guardian who agrees to these Terms for you. Nestbill is not directed to children under 13.
3. Your account
- Give accurate information when you sign up, and keep your password (at least 12 characters) secret. You are responsible for activity under your account.
- One person per account. Do not share, sell or transfer your account.
- Tell us promptly if you believe someone else has used your account. You can sign out other devices and change your password under Me → Account security.
- There is currently no email-based recovery. If you lose your password, we restore access manually after verifying your identity, as described in Account help.
4. Ledgers and shared Nests
- Your personal ledger is visible only to your account.
- In a shared Nest, every signed-in member can see the Nest's bills, the photos and proofs attached to them, and the payment methods members add. Nest admins can manage members, exchange rates and group funds.
- Anyone holding an invitation link can use it to join. Share invitations only with the people they are meant for.
- When you add other people to a Nest, including guests without an account, enter only information you are entitled to share and that they would expect to appear in a shared household ledger.
- If you leave or are removed from a Nest, your access ends but the Nest's past bills and confirmations remain, because the other members rely on them.
5. Your content
You keep all rights to the bills, notes, names, photos and other material you submit ("Your Content"). You give us a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free license to host, store, back up, copy, process and display Your Content only as needed to run Nestbill for you and for the members of the Nests you share it with, including sending a receipt photo to the AI provider when you ask us to scan it. This license ends when Your Content is deleted, except for copies other Nest members still rely on and short-lived backups. We do not sell Your Content or use it for advertising.
You are responsible for Your Content. Do not upload anything unlawful, anything that infringes someone else's rights, other people's private information without their permission, or malicious code.
6. Receipt scanning with AI
- Receipt scanning is optional. A photo is sent only when you take or choose a picture and tap to scan it.
- The photo, together with your ledger's base currency, is sent to the AI service this server is configured to use, currently DeepSeek. DeepSeek is a company based in the People's Republic of China and processes requests on its own servers under its own terms.
- AI results can be wrong: items, prices, quantities, discounts or tax may be misread. Nothing is saved until you review it, and you are responsible for checking the result against the receipt.
- The photo is attached to the bill you save. Scans are limited per account per month (currently ), and we may change the limit or the provider, or turn the feature off.
- Do not scan documents carrying more than an ordinary receipt does, such as full card numbers or identity documents.
7. Not a bank, payment service or adviser
Nestbill records amounts and calculates who owes whom. It does not hold, collect, transfer or pay money, and it never initiates bank or card payments. You and the other members settle up yourselves, outside Nestbill. Exchange rates are entered by Nest admins and may be out of date or wrong. Balances, splits and conversions are tools to help you keep track; they are not financial, tax or legal advice.
8. Acceptable use
You agree not to:
- use Nestbill for anything unlawful, fraudulent or harassing;
- access or try to access another person's account or a Nest you were not invited to;
- probe, scan or test the vulnerability of the service, or interfere with or overload it;
- scrape Nestbill with automated tools, or copy, modify or reverse engineer it except where the law allows this despite this restriction;
- get around scan limits, storage limits, rate limits or other restrictions, or resell access to Nestbill.
9. Paid features
Nestbill is free today. Personal and roommate basics are intended to stay free. We may later offer a one-time "Pro" purchase and a small subscription for AI features. Prices and what each includes will be shown before you buy.
- Purchases made in the iOS app are processed by Apple under Apple's terms. Refunds are handled by Apple under its policies.
- Subscriptions renew automatically at the end of each period unless you cancel at least 24 hours before it ends in your Apple account settings. Deleting the app does not cancel a subscription.
- If we raise the price of a subscription, we will tell you in advance, and where required we will ask for your consent before the new price applies.
10. Beta, limits and availability
Nestbill is in a public beta. Features may change or be removed. The service has limits, including 128 MB of attachments per ledger, 8 MB per image, and caps on sign-ups and invitations. We do not promise that Nestbill will be uninterrupted, error-free or always available. We keep rolling backups for a limited time, but you should export your ledgers (CSV) regularly if you need your own records.
11. Ending your use
You may stop using Nestbill at any time and ask us to delete your account as described in the Privacy Policy. We may suspend or end your access if you break these Terms, if your use creates risk or legal exposure for us or other users, or if we stop offering Nestbill. Where reasonable we will tell you first and give you a chance to export your data. Sections 5, 7 and 12 to 18 survive termination.
12. Third-party services
Nestbill relies on third parties such as our hosting provider, the AI provider for receipt scanning and, for the iOS app, Apple. Their services are governed by their own terms, and we are not responsible for them.
13. Disclaimers
To the fullest extent permitted by law, Nestbill is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, title, non-infringement and accuracy. We do not warrant that calculations, exchange rates or AI results are correct, or that your data will never be lost.
14. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, we will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary or punitive damages, or for lost profits, revenue, data or goodwill, arising from or related to Nestbill. Our total liability for all claims related to Nestbill is limited to the greater of the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim and US$50. Some jurisdictions do not allow these limits, so they may not apply to you. Nothing in these Terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law, such as for fraud, gross negligence or willful misconduct.
15. Indemnity
To the extent permitted by law, you will indemnify us against third-party claims and resulting costs arising from Your Content or your breach of these Terms.
16. Governing law and disputes
Please contact us first; we will try to resolve any dispute informally within 30 days. These Terms are governed by the laws of the place where the operator is established, without regard to its conflict-of-law rules. Nothing in these Terms takes away rights you have under the mandatory consumer protection laws of the place where you live, including the right to bring a claim in your local courts where those laws allow it.
17. Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms. We will post the new version here with a new effective date. If a change is material, we will ask you to accept the new Terms in the app before you continue. If you do not accept, you may stop using Nestbill and ask us to delete your account.
18. Apple App Store
If you downloaded Nestbill from the Apple App Store, the following also applies:
- These Terms are between you and us, not Apple. We, not Apple, are responsible for the app and its content.
- Your license to use the app is limited to Apple-branded devices you own or control, as permitted by the App Store Usage Rules.
- Apple has no obligation to provide maintenance or support for the app.
- If the app fails to conform to an applicable warranty, you may notify Apple, and Apple will refund the purchase price, if any. To the maximum extent permitted by law, Apple has no other warranty obligation for the app.
- We, not Apple, are responsible for addressing claims relating to the app, including product liability claims, claims that the app fails to meet legal or regulatory requirements, consumer protection and privacy claims, and claims that the app infringes someone's intellectual property.
- You confirm that you are not located in a country subject to a U.S. Government embargo or designated as a "terrorist supporting" country, and that you are not on any U.S. Government list of prohibited or restricted parties.
- Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these Terms and may enforce them against you.
19. General
These Terms and the Privacy Policy are the entire agreement between you and us about Nestbill. If any part is found unenforceable, the rest stays in effect. Our not enforcing a provision is not a waiver. You may not assign these Terms without our consent; we may assign them in connection with a transfer of the service, and will tell you if we do.
20. Contact
Questions about these Terms: contact the operator of this Nestbill service at through the person who invited you, or as described in Account help.
